Elizabeth J. Gibbons is a 1983 graduate of Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College and began her career with a prominent labor law firm in upstate New York. The firm specialized in representing both private and public sector unions and union benefit funds. While practicing in New York, Ms. Gibbons represented the Teamsters union.

In addition, Ms. Gibbons represented several police unions affiliated with the local Teamsters union. During her six years of practicing law in New York, Ms. Gibbons represented the Teamsters Union Health and Welfare and pension funds in various Federal ERISA litigation matters. She assisted in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements for the police unions and represented the police and Teamster union members in administrative disciplinary matters, contract dispute arbitrations, union and unit certification proceedings, unfair labor practice charge proceedings, contract negotiation and arbitration proceedings.

In 1990, Ms. Gibbons joined Green & Shinee and was made a partner in 1997. Her experience and background in New York as a labor attorney have nicely complemented the Firm’s practice. She has continued to represent public sector unions and their members in various areas of labor relations. Ms. Gibbons negotiated a $300,000 settlement with the Sheriff’s Department over the violation of the constitutional rights of two deputy sheriffs during the course of a disciplinary proceeding, and also negotiated an agreement that the Sheriff’s Department would engage in a substantial re-education program for captains, lieutenants and sergeants regarding employees’ civil rights. Ms. Gibbons and the Firm have been charged by the Court with monitoring the Sheriff’s Department re-education program.
